The V-Moda Crossfade Wireless headphones are an excellent choice if you are looking for punchy bass, crisp treble, and clear sound. What's great about these headphones is that they sound great even while in wireless mode. However I found the stock earpads to be a bit thin - so I upgraded those with V-Moda's XL earpads for an additional $20.Sound Signature - Bass lovers will enjoy these! The sound signature of these headphones is V-shaped - bass and treble are emphasized over the mids. Bass is punchy and tight while treble is also well-defined, and "sparkly" at the top. Mids are not as forward as the bass or treble, but are still very much present and clear. Unlike other bass-emphasized headphones, the mids do not sound muffled, but are still well-defined. Music such as EDM, Rap, Pop, and modern Rock music sound quite good with these.Wired vs Wireless Sound Quality - both sound greatWhether listening to these headphones in wired, or wireless mode; the sound is nearly the same. In wireless mode the over all crispness of the sound is slightly less than wired mode. I could only tell the difference if i repeatedly plugged in and unplugged the wire - and even then, the difference is so small, that it's not an issue. I usually use these headphones wireless as a result.Sound - Compared to other headphonesThe Crossfade Wireless are headphones that I consider to be bass-heavy. Another well-known bassy headphone is the Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro. (The Custom One Pro has an adjustable bass setting but it lacks bluetooth.)The Crossfade Wireless definitely has tighter bass, and more extended treble than the Custom One Pro. But because of the extended treble, classic rock and acoustic music can sometimes have artificial sounding highs. Because of this, I prefer the Custom One Pros whenever listening to classic rock and 80s music. But for EDM and Rap, the Crossfade Wireless are amazing.Wireless and Wired FunctionalityIn wireless mode, once you've paired these headphones to your bluetooth-capable device (phone, tablet, computer, etc), connection takes only a few seconds everytime the Crossfade Wireless headphones are turned on. On my phone, there is an indicator of the connection, and how much battery charge is left on the headphones. I also happen to have these headphones paired with my laptop. When both my phone and laptop are present however, the headphones default to whichever is actually putting out audio at a given moment. The range on these headphones is good. I've had the my iPhone 6 over 30 feet away from me behind a single wall and the Crossfade Wireless worked just fine. However more walls or more distance past that would easily cause spotty reception. I suppose the strength of the source of the bluetooth signal (iPhone, audio reciever, computer, etc) would also play into the equation - but in my experience, the reception is quite good.Battery Life and ChargingIt took me about 2hrs to fully charge the battery of this headphone. The battery is not user-removable. The manual states it lasts 12 hours. I've used it on and off for a few days straight without having to charge it. It should be noted that in wired mode, the headphones do not use battery power. This means when the battery goes out, you can still use these headphones wired. There is no visual battery life indicator on the headphones themselves. You would have to check the connected device for how much life is left in the current charge - this is common in a lot of bluetooth headphones.Latency in Wireless mode - none noticableWhen watching videos and youtube on my phone or ipad, I have not noticed any sort of latency issue in wireless mode. The sound of people talking matches the timing of their lip movements, and gaming seems to be work correctly - at least on my iPhone 6.ComfortThis is where these headphones fell a bit short for me. The pads included with these headphones are somewhat thin for my tastes. What's more, the pads are not quite big enough for totally encase my ears - which means some of the padding rested directly on the outer tips of my ears. This caused a bit of soreness after an hour or so. Fortunately, V-Moda offers the memory foam XL Pad for around $20. Upgrading to the XL Pads made the fit much more comfortable. With the XL pads, my ears are fully-encased inside the pads, and no longer touch them directly. I can now wear the headphones significantly longer with a lot more comfort. Though I still have the one complaint - my ears get a bit hot after a few hours of use. It's not a huge issue, and I can put up with it. But by contrast, my Beyerdynamic Costum One Pros are much more "spacious" - allowing my ears to remain cool for longer periods of time.Build Quality - Good, but the buttons are a bit clunkyThe Crossfade Wireless headphones are made of good parts and materials. The housing of each earpiece is made of sturdy plastic with metal trim and metal shield plates. The earpieces are held in place by a metal frame and the headband is flexible but very sturdy. It all makes for a robust pair of headphones. In fact, I've accidentally stepped on them once - forcing one of the earpieces to dislodge from the frame. But since the frame itself is metal, and the fact that the plastic is well-reinforced; there was no damage - I simply just popped the earpiece back into place. However, the buttons that control volume, and play need a bit of improvement. The pressing action of these buttons feels too shallow and sometimes pressing the button doesn't actually feel like it's being pressed. The power-on button also functions as a pairing-mode button. This slides instead of being pressed-down. The sliding action is decent, but in the "off" position, the force required to slide it to "on" seems a bit too much - I sometimes find it painful to operate since it catches on my fingernail.Bling - customizable shieldsLike other V Moda headphones, the shield plates on each earpiece can be replaced for a customized look. The V-Moda website has a special service in which customized plates with different materials and surface types can be made. The materials range from simple aluminum to even precious metals that can cost as much as $40k! However, the more affordable options (such as the aluminum and standard metal) are still quite good-looking. You can even have your own initials engraved into them, as well as your own custom logo.ConclusionThe Crossfade Wireless headphones are a great choice for someone looking for punchy bass, extended highs, and excellent clarity. The fact that these sound so great in wireless mode is perhaps the most amazing thing about them. The default ear pads do require replacing for the best comfort, and they still can get your ears hot - but it's a small gripe to an otherwise excellent pair of wireless headphones.Pros:* Metal headband (As opposed to cheap plastic that tends to break one way or another)* Sound great after a bit of EQ adjustment* Decent battery life on wireless* Wireless sound quality is good* Has option to use in wired mode without draining the battery* They don't fold (might be a con depending on who you are I guess)* They completely enclose your ears* Easy to operate in wired and wireless mode* Comfortable with XL ear pads. Can wear them for several hours minimal discomfort.Cons:* Extremely bass heavy (Not a con if all you care about is bass)* Fits a tad tight but can be made more comfortable with the XL ear pads. They definitely won't come off accidentally though so it is sort of a pro too.* This headset is not great if you are planning on depending on the bluetooth functionality. While the battery life is pretty decent, the battery itself is not the best, and will cease to hold a charge after a short while of ownership.Additional Thoughts:I have been looking for a headset that would last longer than 6 months before cracking, snapping, and breaking at the ear piece/headband and I am hoping that these are "The One". I have only had these for a couple days but overall I am happy with them. The fact that these have a metal head band (Instead of cheap brittle plastic) is mostly what sold me on these. My biggest gripe with this headset is that it is way too bass heavy for me to enjoy listening to genres with an emphasis on the sound dynamics of the music as a whole rather than just an emphasis on the beat. It tends to flood out the mids and highs; so it probably won't be for people who are audiophiles or who like to enjoy music that doesn't have an emphasis on bass (Such as rock, metal, classical, etc). That said though, utilizing a 3rd party software EQ to bring the low frequencies way down, boost up the mids a bit, and the highs just a tad, and the headphones are actually more pleasant to listen to now. Some frequencies still get lost in the bass but it still sounds much better than my old headphones. As a side note to the above, it would be really great if the headset was configurable via an app, especially to let people adjust EQ directly in the headset itself so that they sound the same no matter what you plug them into, and whether or not said device has capability to make EQ adjustments on its own sound. For instance, XBox One doesn't have a configurable EQ (that I can find whether native, app, or otherwise) so I'm stuck listening to everything in my games with super deep bass. Perhaps even have configurable profiles too so you can quickly switch between your favorite settings for different songs or genres. The bluetooth wireless functionality is easy to use and works fine with my PC and mobile devices. I notice very little if any audio quality differences between blue tooth and wired mode. There can be occasional pops or crackling on blue tooth but I am chalking that up to it just being the nature of wireless devices and interference. It isn't frequent enough for it to be an issue for me. Battery life in wireless mode has so far been stellar. I charged it to full capacity the first day I got it and haven't had to charge it again yet.As mentioned above, while the charge capacity and use time before needing a charge is good; the battery itself is apparently not so great. My headset ceased holding a charge after very short term ownership (About 6 months), and I didn't actually even use the wireless all that often. I've charged it perhaps maybe 5 times since I've had it. I have since sent it in for warranty repair, the warranty process went smoothly, and customer support was really good about the whole process. Just be aware that the turn around time is a bit lengthy, it took almost a month to get my repaired headset back.Although the stock ear cushions are by no means uncomfortable; the XL memory foam ear cushions definitely make the headset much more comfortable if you're a long term wearer of headphones. The ear pieces are a lot smaller than I imagined they'd be. I thought that they would be more the size of studio headphones, and I didn't think they would fully enclose my ear, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that they enclose my ear just fine.I've seen some reviews complaining that the noise cancellation isn't all that great. I didn't buy these for noise cancellation so I don't really have an opinion on it one way or another, but I will say that it's okay, not great, not bad either.Overall, aside from the minor things here and there, I like this headset a lot. I am hoping to get at least 3 years use out of these (I didn't think that was asking too much of the previous headsets I owned but apparently I was wrong...) If this headset can last a reasonable amount of time (with proper care and handling of course) then I think I will call these my new favorite.I researched various Earphones for over one week and looked at Bose, Beats, Sennheiser and all the top brands. I was concerned about build quality after testing some of the earphones in store as they were very plasticy and didnt feel like they were worth the 200/300 pound price tag.I bought these after discovering VModa on amazon.First let me say that the most important factor, the sound quality, is better than anythign else I tested. A full, balanced sound with nice bass, mids and treble. The volume is great and goes louder than you would need. Also the quality via wireless is great. The wireless functions flawlessly. I have tested with my mobile phone listening to music when out and about as well as with my laptop at home. It pairs with ease and stays connected. The battery life is awesome giving at least 12 hours of music listening and the charge time was only a couple of hours.I found the earphones very comfortable and although they dont block out all external noise they black enough for you to enjoy what youre listening to without distraction. The build quality is phenomenal! Solid build and very durable. Have a read on the tests carried out on the Vmoda website. They are strong and adjustable and have option to replace earpags as well as the shields on the side. The shields can be made in a variety of colours with engraving and 3D modelling. All is all I discovered the perfect pair of earphones and im extrememly happy with my purchase. They come with flat micro USB for charging as well as a fabric cable for listening without wireless (If battery dies you can listen as you would with a regular pair)Pricey? Maybe, you may think so but for earphones of this quality and the option to replace parts then you really do get what you pay for. These will last for years to come and you will not find yourself wanting to upgrade after a few months of using a cheaper pair. These are perhaps the best headphones that I've owned . I have some Beats Studio and have also had Sennheisser , Sony and AIAIAI but I like these the best of all . After using the V-moda M100 for some years I decided to get a new pair and went for these wireless versions . I think they sound very similar to the M100 but as I no longer have them I can't do an A/B comparison . Both as a DJ headphone and at home for personal use I'm a fan of V-Moda's sound . The bass is warm and punchy , the sub sits where it should without being overbearing and the mids and tops have great clarity. I've found using the beats headphones that the separation and stereo sound stage can be a little too much and almost makes the mix sound a bit hollow where these headphones kind of sound tighter the music gels together and that works a lot better for Dj sets and programming in the studio. The other thing thats a bit of a bonus for me is this is my first pair of bluetooth headphones, I'm not going to be using it on my dj sets but for listening at home or whilst travelling its a great feature to have as you feel more free without being tangled up in the cable.Seriously don't buy these!! Because once you put them on and load up some tunes you won't want to take them off!!! I've been debating on getting some V-MODA's for some time now and these were recently offered by Amazon at a very attractive price and I had to get them. Even the unboxing felt special, they are extremely well packed and well presented. After a quick charge I paired them to a Win 10 laptop and played some favorite test tracks. The sound, wow, very enjoyable! Perhaps not necessarily reference quality but certainly a fun listen. They hit hard in the bass, have a slightly recessed midrange (which I don't mind) and highs that are smooth and not too fatiguing. The soundstage is a little narrow but nothing that you would worry too much about. I normally use monster JVC SZ1000's which are absolute bass cannons but due to the dual driver design still provide great mids and highs. Comparing these to the JVC's I would say the SZ1000's definitely hit harder and reach higher highs but the V-MODAS overall sound spectrum seems better balanced. Comfort wise I have have worn these for hours on end and they are just fine. My only complaint is the controls which I find a bit difficult to find sometimes and the button action feels a bit cheap.IntroductionLet me first start off by saying why I decided to give the V-Moda CFW a go, despite my skepticism towards bluetooth and wireless overall. The reason I decided to give the CFW a go is mainly the decision to have ago at moving with the times. There has been rumours that Apple maybe removing the headphone jack from the iPhone 7, now while this rumour doesn’t hold much ground, I personally was feeling that this was a terrible idea but then after thinking about it and after trying the CFW that feeling has turned from terrible to me thinking that it actually maybe a good idea but that is a whole nother topic in itself.Design & BuildThe design of the V-Moda is going to be a love or hate thing for people, if you love them then nothing else will do but if you hate them then well you will most likely go for something else. I personally enjoy the design of these headphones, while I don’t much like the Chrome or Rogue colour schemes, both the Gunmetal & White colour schemes are definitely amazing. The build on any V-Moda headphone is fantastic, the plethora of Metal & strong/quality plastic makes handling and using these headphones a premium experience.SoundTime to move onto the sound, now my sound impressions are from me using the Fidue A83 for over a year and the OPPO HA-2 for a few months. My testing of the V-Moda CFW was done purely in Wireless mode, but I can say that the sound is almost indistinguishable from the Wireless to Wired. The decision to use these in purely wireless for all my testing is mainly because I am testing a more simpler and cleaner setup over OTG Adapters or stacked AMPs/DACs or expensive DAPs.Equipment Used:Samsung S6 Edge PlusGoogle Play Music (320Kbps Streaming)BassStrong, hard hitting and huge impact. The bass is probably the big part of the sound with the CFW, but do take note that while there is an emphasis in the Bass on the CFW it doesn’t bleed into the Mids or Treble, nor does it overpower the rest of the song unless the track you are listening to is poorly recorded.MidsThe mids are neutral, they are not forward nor are they recessed. They are there, making presence in the track but at the same time they are not in your face forward nor are they recessed like they are veiled.TrebleThe treble on the CFW is rolled off more into the upper treble, this gives off a smoother treble than some would like but at the same time it gives of a more smoother tone to the CFW without sounding too smooth and still keeping some detail in the treble with a nice crash with symbols.SoundstageThe soundstage is about average or what I was expecting for a closed back headphone, it could be larger but at the same time I feel it is still good and provides a nice comfortable listening stage without sounding too closed in or too far apart.IssuesSo there are a few issues with the CFW; The first is the hiss which is prominent in most bluetooth headphones but it is a little more prominent in the CFW, however it is no more hiss than what I was getting with my Fidue A83 & the OPPO HA-2. The next issue is that everytime you turn the headphones on and it pairs, I have to wait a few more seconds for the music to play through properly but it’s possible this could be cause my phone is rooted or Google Play Music.Final ThoughtsDespite the issues, which may put some people off, I do recommend these if the sound signature is to your tastes. The slight emphasis in the bass and rolled off treble with a neutral mid range gives off a smoother tone with detail but also non fatiguing tone so you can literally listen to these for hours and not get tired.Update (2016-02-02):A quick update on these headphones, it seems the bluetooth issues I was having were solved using a fairly simple method. All I am doing now is; Firstly turn bluetooth on in my phone, then turn the headphones on, to which they pair up within seconds and then I can start playing music straight away. Before I would turn the headphones on first or leave bluetooth on in my phone but now when I am not using my headphones I switch bluetooth off. I also don't get the initial music playback issue that I was getting before where the headphones would pair up with the phone but I would have to wait around a little bit before music was playing properly.Update (2016-02-22)After getting the XL Pads for the CFW, they have improved quite a bit. Overall resolution across the frequency range is much improved, the overall clarity has increased and the sound stage has also widened. The bass is now much tighter but with a much better presence with sub-bass and bass extension. The mids are now a little bit forward compared to the normal pads where the mids where neutral, the treble has better presence giving off better detail and clarity. Overall the CFW benefit massively from the XL Pads and in my opinion should come as standard over the normal pads that currently ship with the CFW.These sound great, slightly heavy on the bass end. They show up bad recordings, especially those with poor bass which comes across muddy, but comparing to a high quality recording shows how clear and tight everything really is. Imaging and separation are superb. Some negatives: I found that the wireless mode is prone to some occasional hiss, also a few clicks and pops. Annoyingly i found the minimum volume from an iPhone 6 was too high for late night listening in bed, if turned any lower it would mute. Not sure if this is a phone, bluetooth or headphones issue but it was pretty annoying. Also I think the sound leakage is borderline, however I did notice that the isolation of the outside world is very flat i.e. It doesn't sound muffled just evenly reduced high, mids and lows. The set i had didn't work with the included lead, I just got a faint whisper of the audio that didn't change at any volume. I've since read accounts of shorted leads, so perhaps thats the issue. But that was the last straw, they went back.I loved the sound and the flat hugging profile - they dont stick out hardly at all, unlike Beats or Plantronics. Unfortunately a few too many niggles for me want low volumes and good isolation. However they would be perfect for DJ usage.
