I have an original Car Play Kit device for my 2021 vehicle. It’s buggy despite being on the latest update. I thought why not upgrade to something newer. Guy in car forums has tried all devices on Amazon and recommended this KAVINN CarPlay mainly for its 2 second connection.Lo and behold, device has a smaller footprint than my previous device, barely any call lag and connects quicker than my entertainment system loads up. But as a suspected with these devices, finding one with no issues is nearly impossible.CONS - Connectivity Issue:If you’re on a call right before entering your vehicle and starting up, good luck getting connected. The device refuses to connect when a call is ongoing. I get stuck on business calls for hours sometimes between my office, to my car, and en route to client locations. I can’t usually end those mid call. So I spend whole drives using my phone speaker. If that was only it, I could deal with the annoyance. Oh no, it connects to my device every 3-4 minutes and switches my phone to bluetooth output BUT refuses to activate car play. I spent a whole commute not knowing why this was happening. I finally unplugged the device and I could safely keep my call going. For $55 I guess I could deal with this if I remember to not be on a call. Don’t get this if you want to set and forget it. Probably better off plugging your phone in directly.Decided to try this gadget out, since it seemed decently priced compared to its competition, and it was previously at 4 stars total rating.Setting up the connection wasn’t too hard, given the clear instructions. Once I got it running with my vehicle’s wired CarPlay, I tested Apple Maps. It loaded instantly and seamlessly. Exactly what I wanted!Next, I tested the audio quality. It was on par with the audio quality through a wired connection. My only dislike is that there is a 1.5 second delay when skipping tracks, and a delay in the audio when watching a video on my phone. While I did receive a call when the adapter was connected, I couldn’t quite tell if there was a delay during the call.In the instruction booklet, it said that the adapter can receive updates through USB. I’ve yet to try it, but if the adapter can be updated, it would be great if the delay could be greatly minimized.**Edit** I tried connecting the adapter through USB to a computer, but nothing prompts up, and there are no right-click options when going into connected device settings. While I love how instant Apple Maps load through the adapter, the 1.5 second delay when scanning through music tracks, and when watching videos on your phone is kind of a deal breaker for me.Good interface, Plug and play, but quality of product poor. I started to have issues in August with volume not working or no sound at all. Then could not change the music. It needs to be improved on the hardware.I have an older Alpine i109-WRX CarPlay unit in my Jeep and it appears to not be supported. It does work pretty well so far on my Pioneer DMH-160BT.The other problem is that the interface is not accessible unless you can connect to it. I could not connect to it through my Alpine or when it was just plugged into power until after I connected to it through the Pioneer.I contacted seller through Amazon to see if there is a fix for my Alpine and they said they will get back to me.Worked well for the most part but it got stuck on the connection screen and simply wouldn’t connect. Frustrating because otherwise was a solid adapter. Tried to update firmware but wouldn’t go through.I didn't want to have to plug my phone in every time to use Carplay. This unit works perfectly. Slight delay at when you first get in the car, but it ready to go within 30 seconds or less. Now I don't have to plug in my phone to get car play.Ordered 2 devices and the first one only worked for maybe 2 months and yesterday the other one stopped working. Ordered both at the end of April 2022I wanted a device to allow me to get Netflix and YouTube on Kia screen. This device was listed with much more expensive devices that could project Netflix onto Kia screen. It is nothing more than a Bluetooth connection which we all can do with our phones now. 100% waste of money. I am sure it is great if you do not have Bluetooth on your cell phone but not sure who that might be. I am sending it back for refund.
